Krakow
is situated in the south of Poland, on the river Vistula.
The flight time from London is just over two hours and
airlines servicing this route include British Airways,
RyanAir, SkyEurope, CentralWings and EasyJet.
The airport is in Balice, about 12km
west of the city. There is a taxi rank just outside the
airport where taxis for up to 5 people can be found; it
costs approximately 60zl to the apartment/city centre
and takes between 20-30 minutes. There is also a bus stop
at the airport with regular buses to the city centre (numbers
152/192/208); this is a much cheaper option costing just
5zl per person plus luggage but be prepared to ask fellow
passengers to tell you when you have reached the Barbican
at Plac Matkejki where you need to get off. It is then
a five minute walk around the Planty in a southerly direction
until you reach a main road called Starowislna. Walk up
Starowislna for a further 5 minutes until you reach the
first intersection. This tree-lined avenue is Jozefa Dietla
and the apartment is just over the road off the right-hand
side of Starowislna.
The main railway station, Krakow Glowny,
is on the northeastern outskirts of the Old Town and handles
all international and most domestic trains. The PKS bus
terminal is situated next to Krakow Glowny train station;
this is the main terminal for most international and domestic
buses. The bus journey to London from Krakow takes approximately
27 hours. Buses run frequently to Zakopane, the famous
mountain resort and winter sports capital; it takes approximately
2 hours by bus and costs approximately 10zl.
